This Week in Auto Racing July 4 - July 6
It's the Fourth of July and NASCAR returns to the "World Center of Racing" to highlight the holiday weekend of racing.
Franchitti and No.40 to cease Cup operations
Dario Franchitti and his No.40 Chip Ganassi Racing Dodge will not compete in the Sprint Cup Series, due to lack of sponsorship, the team announced on Tuesday.
Busch, Montoya Clash Unavoidable
It's no surprise the arrogance of NASCAR's Juan Pablo Montoya and the cockiness of Kyle Busch would soon cross paths on the track, and it did in Sunday's Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. When the caution flag was displayed in the closing laps of the rain-shortened race, Montoya's No.42 Dodge hit Busch's No.18 Toyota from behind and put Busch in a spin.
Busch wins rain-shortened race at Loudon
Kurt Busch's crew chief Pat Tryson kept the No.2 Penske Racing Dodge on the track when all the leaders pitted for fuel, and it turned out to be the winning move as Busch captured Sunday afternoon's Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway when a rain storm came barreling through the Loudon area.
Daytona 500 - Recap
Ryan Newman came from fourth on the final restart to win the 50th running of the Daytona 500 at the Daytona International Speedway. The No.12 driver took the checkered flag 0.092 seconds ahead of Penske Racing teammate Kurt Busch.
Samsung 500 - Recap
Carl Edwards had to go a few extra laps, but the outcome was rarely in doubt over the last 100 laps as he won Sunday's Samsung 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Subway Fresh Fit 500 - Recap
Jimmie Johnson overcame an early race mistake by stretching his final tank of fuel for the final 81 laps to capture Saturday night's Subway Fresh Fit 500 Sprint Cup race at the Phoenix International Raceway. The No.48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet took the checkered flag 7.002 seconds ahead of Clint Bowyer.
Goody's Cool Orange 500 - Recap
Virginian Denny Hamlin's pit strategy forced him to work his way back from 19th place, but the third-year driver took his time and captured Sunday's Goody's Cool Orange 500 at the Martinsville Speedway.
Aaron's 499 - Recap
Kyle Busch won Sunday's Aaron's 499 Sprint Cup race at the Talladega Superspeedway as the checkered flag came out because of two multi-car accidents on the last lap. The No.18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota crossed the finish line just ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya.
